Bouncy Tuesday Run

It was a rocky day at work, and after yesterday's rest day, I was very much looking forward to getting home and getting outside for my run. I decided that today would be a good day to do the longer route, with a little bit of the "rubberbanding" that my uncle showed me thrown in to help change up the pace.

Stats:
Distance: 3.25 miles
Duration: 36 minutes
Pace: 11:04
Splits: 11:24, 10:46, 11:07
Elevation gain; 118 feet

Overall summary: I'm doing a really good job of keeping a steady pace. Almost too good of a job, considering that despite variations in whether I was going uphill, on a fairly flat surface, or downhill, I maintained about the same speed.

My second mile felt the best, which may have been impacted by the fact that I got to stop at a stoplight waiting to cross for a couple minutes in the middle of the mile. (I paused the workout while I stood waiting, since I didn't want to throw off my pacing.)

I may do some stationary bike work, or perhaps a little weight training tomorrow, just to make sure I don't overdo it. I did already do two runs this week!

Inaugural Post!

Every blog has one of these posts, though I'm at a loss, considering I've been working on the same blog for the past 6-7 years. Goodness. That being said, I wanted a place that I could update with full info about important running events, and keep my running log all at the same time. Maybe post pictures and whatnot. They say maintaining a running log is incredibly important, and I much prefer the idea of updating a blog than keeping a journal (I'm not good at journaling for more than a couple weeks at a time, then I drop it for years at a time).

So, here we go. I've been running with a goal in mind for...just over two weeks. My pace is slow (over 10 minute miles) and my distance is short (3 miles or fewer so far), but progress is being made, and I feel that something gets accomplished during every run, even if it's just the fact that I got my butt off the couch and went for the damn run.

I have three events that I've thus far signed up to run:

The Go Long 520 10k on April 2nd
The Snoqualmie Valley Run (signed up for the 10k) on June 11th
and The Half-Boring Half Marathon on September 18th

I can always downgrade the half marathon to the 8k option, which would be fine, though I think with 3 months to prepare, I'll have plenty of time to figure out if I want to do it or not.

My uncle is a fantastic life-long runner, and we already went for a run together (right after I purchased the very expensive shoes). I hope we get to keep running together, though he's fighting a foot injury, so I may have to buy him a Razor scooter or something if it doesn't heal. I wouldn't mind doing that in exchange for the company and the great running advice.

In the meantime my main goal is to make sure my enthusiasm doesn't overpower what my body can do. Easy to say, hard to do.

Oh, almost forgot: the name of the blog. It's hard to explain, but after the first blog was entitled by the answer to a weird question (what kind of animal would you be, really?) I asked one of my roommates what I should call a running blog. He informed me something about the sun exploding because running causes friction and I was creating lots of friction and (somehow it sort of made sense at the time...) therefore the purchase of my new running shoes would help me create enough friction to heat up the sun and cause it to explode. Clear as mud? Yeah, I agree. But hey, it made a good blog title in the end!
